Lists, Headers, and Navigation

Bulleted and Numbered Lists

Type your items, select them, then Home → Bullets or Numbering. Press Enter inside a list keeps the list going; Backspace on an empty list line stops it.

Multilevel Lists

For outlines like 1. / 1.1 / 1.1.1 use Home → Multilevel List:

1.  Introduction
      1.1  Goals
      1.2  Scope
2.  Body
      2.1  Methods

Tab promotes a line to the next level; Shift+Tab moves it back up.

Heading Structure = Navigation

If you applied Heading styles, you get free navigation:

• Navigation pane - View → Navigation Pane lists every heading; click to jump.
• Table of Contents - References → Table of Contents builds a TOC from headings in one click.
• Update a TOC with right-click → Update Field after editing.

Check and Outline Views

• Outline view - drag whole sections up and down like blocks.
• Headings as links - in the PDF/HTML export, headings become bookmarks automatically when built from styles.

• Lists inherit formatting from styles - restyle once, all lists update.
