AdSense Policies and Invalid Traffic

The cardinal rule: never click your own ads

Do not click your ads, ask friends to, or use any device or script to generate clicks or impressions. Google's systems detect this invalid traffic quickly, and it is the number-one reason accounts are permanently disabled.

Do not buy traffic

Sending paid, bot, or incentivised traffic to pages with ads is prohibited. Grow with real visitors from search, social and content. Quality traffic also earns far more than junk traffic ever could.

Content policies

Pages showing AdSense must avoid disallowed content – adult material, dangerous or illegal content, hateful content, and copyrighted material you do not own. Keep your content advertiser-friendly.

Protect yourself from invalid traffic

  • If you notice a sudden flood of clicks you cannot explain, report it to Google.
  • Do not put ads on pages that get bot-heavy or non-content traffic.
  • Never take part in "click exchange" schemes.
Warning: A disabled AdSense account is very hard to recover. When in doubt, do not do it – err on the side of the policies.

Key points

  • Never click your own ads or generate artificial clicks/impressions.
  • Do not buy or incentivise traffic to ad pages.
  • Keep content advertiser-friendly and original.
  • Report suspicious traffic; avoid click schemes.
