The main formats
- Display ads – the classic responsive rectangle/banner, works anywhere.
- In-article ads – blend between paragraphs of long content.
- In-feed ads – match the look of a list or grid of posts.
- Multiplex – a grid of native "recommended" style ads, good after the content.
Where to place them
Put ads where they are seen but not annoying: near the top of the content (but not pushing it off-screen), between sections of a long article, and at the end. The screenshot below shows the idea – visible, near content, not stacked.
Rules that protect your account and UX
- Never encourage clicks ("click here", arrows pointing at ads) – it is a policy violation.
- Do not place ads where they cause accidental clicks, e.g. right next to buttons.
- Reserve space for each ad so it does not shove content around as it loads (avoid layout shift / bad Core Web Vitals).
- Do not overload a page with ads – it hurts reading, ranking and revenue per ad.
Key points
- Use display, in-article, in-feed and multiplex formats to fit the layout.
- Place ads near content and above the fold, without burying the content.
- Never nudge clicks or place ads to trick them.
- Reserve ad space to avoid layout shift.
