Methods of Transfer

Drag a file from one pane to the other, double-click it, or use the toolbar Transfer buttons. A folder transfers recursively, preserving the directory structure.

Transfer Confirmation Dialog

When you drop files, WinSCP asks where they should go and shows options: overwrite, keep both versions, or skip. The dropdown can switch between text and binary transfer modes where applicable.

Resuming Interrupted Transfers

SFTP transfers can resume if they fail mid-way. Re-transferring overwrites only the incomplete part, saving bandwidth on large files.

Tuning Performance

Under Preferences, transfer settings let you raise the number of concurrent connections (useful on fast links) and choose buffer sizes. Compression can speed up very slow connections.

Transfer Queue Window

Every transfer appears in the queue window, which supports pause and resume of individual operations. Schedule and scripting build on the same queue machinery for unattended work.
