The WinSCP Interface

The Login Dialog

Every WinSCP session starts at the login screen: host name, port, protocol and stored sessions. This is where you decide SFTP over FTP or SCP, and where you attach a private key file instead of typing a password.

The Main Window

The main window shows two panes. The left pane is your local machine; the right pane is the remote server. Above them sits a toolbar with connection, transfer and command shortcuts, and a command line at the bottom for console-style work.

Transfer Options

Use drag and drop, double-click, or the topmost buttons to move files between panes. When a transfer finishes, WinSCP shows a queue window where you can pause, resume or cancel items.

Session Tabs and Workspaces

Multiple connections open in tabs, each with its own pair of panes. Workspaces remember which sessions were open and their states, so you can restore a whole working environment next time.
