Installing WinSCP
Download and Install
WinSCP is distributed as a standard Windows installer. Download the latest version from winSCP.net and run it. An interactive or unattended installation can be done with the -mode /switch commands, useful for team deployments.
During the Setup Wizard
Choose a typical or custom installation, then pick the user interface mode. Explorer (Norton Commander style) is the default and most familiar, while Commander mode gives two synchronized file panels, or you can install both and switch later.
Explorer vs Commander Mode
In Explorer mode the remote side behaves like the local file explorer with the same icons and shortcuts. Commander mode shows a classic two-panel layout that some administrators prefer for bulk operations.
After Installation
Launch WinSCP and the login dialog appears immediately. You create a stored session with a host name, username and password or key file, and WinSCP remembers it for later logins. The stored sessions screen lets you organize servers into folders.
Key Points
- Install is a standard Windows wizard.
- Choose Explorer or Commander UI at install time.
- Sessions are stored centrally in the login dialog.
- Unattended switches allow mass deployment.
