Measuring SEO with Search Console and Analytics

Google Search Console

Search Console is the free, essential tool from Google. It shows the queries you appear for, your impressions, clicks, average position and CTR, plus indexing and Core Web Vitals reports. Verify your site and submit your sitemap on day one.

Find quick wins

In the Performance report, look for pages ranking on positions 5–15 – they are close to the first page. Improving those pages (better title, more complete content, an internal link or two) often lifts them fastest. Also find queries with high impressions but low CTR and rewrite the title/description.

Analytics for behaviour

Pair Search Console with an analytics tool (such as GA4) to see what visitors do after they arrive: which pages hold attention, where they leave, and what leads to sign-ups or affiliate clicks. SEO brings them in; analytics tells you if the page delivered.

Make it a loop

SEO is iterative: publish, measure in Search Console, improve the pages with potential, and repeat. Rankings move over weeks, not hours – be patient and consistent.

Key points

  • Search Console shows queries, impressions, clicks, position and CTR – set it up first.
  • Push page-2 pages (positions 5–15) onto page 1 for fast wins.
  • Use analytics to see what visitors do after arriving.
  • Treat SEO as a measure-improve-repeat loop over weeks.
