Installing Notepad++

Standard Install

Download the installer from notepad-plus-plus.org. The classic installer is recommended for Windows; an x64 or ARM build can be chosen for newer hardware.

Portable Version

Download the portable zip, extract it to a folder such as D:\Apps\Notepad++ and run notepad++.exe. All settings stay inside the folder, so the editor can live on a USB drive or be reset by deleting the folder.

First Launch Settings

• Confirm language and EOL preference.
• Choose whether to associate file types.
• Enable the Plugins Admin from the Plugins menu when prompted.

Key Points

• Close the editor before installing or migrating plugins.
• Portable mode keeps all data in one folder.
• Plugins Admin installs extensions from within the app.
• The updater keeps Notepad++ current.
