Reasoning Mode: Deep Thinking Explained
What Reasoning Does
Reasoning mode makes the model think at length before answering: decomposing the problem, trying paths, checking work. Watch the thinking trace to see how it reached the answer, not just the answer.
Best Uses
Competition math, logic puzzles, tricky debugging, architecture trade-offs, and any question where your first instinct might be wrong. The harder the problem, the bigger the gap versus quick mode.
Tips
Give complete problem statements: reasoning amplifies good input, not missing input. Ask it to verify its own answer by an independent method. Allow time: deep thinking is slower by design.
